Precollege Goes Punk

This week I am studying fashion journalism at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City. The workshop is part of their precollege programs that give high school students interested in fashion the opportunity to take non-credit courses at the college. For anyone interested in fashion, I highly recommend taking a precollege course. This is has been the most amazing week of my entire life- I learned so much and I got to live in my favorite city in the whole world for an entire week. Nothing beats this. For more information, check out www.fitnyc.edu/precollege.

Today, my and my fellow fashionistas boarded the 6 train and headed uptown to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art (aka the Met)'s exhibit, Punk: Chaos Meets Couture. However Punk is not just an exhibit, it's an experience. The combination of bright lights that illuminate the predominantly darkened room and blaring punk music that is occasionally muted by random bursts of loud noise create an atmosphere one can only imagine would exist on the set of a rock video. The wide range of punk-inspired couture that was displayed included a layered chiffon gown with safety pin detailing on the bust, paired with studded leather gloves, as well as vintage shredded band tees partnered with leather mini skirts. A personal favorite was a pair of brilliantly tailored gaucho pants partnered with a gold coat with intricate gold detailing.

I will admit, the first time I visited this exhibit I was unable to appreciate the artistic value to the collection and did not enjoy it. It was not until I went today with my FIT peers that I was able to recognize the beauty and genius behind the clothing. This is definitely an exhibit worth  checking out.

Take a look for yourself at some of the pics I sneakily snapped!

Three Ways To Wear...

...leggings, black boots and a necklace! If your wardrobe is feeling a little tired, no need to worry. All you need is to dress up your basics and you have three completely different outfits! Here are three ways I styled basic black leggings, black boots and a fun necklace.

Athlete Chic

After spending this past weekend in NYC, I noticed tons of women fashioned in athletic clothing. I spotted dozens sporting the signature Lululemon zipup jacket with cropped running leggings. I felt compelled to throw on a pair myself and with summer right around the corner, what better time to start getting in shape than now?!

I love wearing athletic clothes in the springtime because the material is adaptive to the semi-bipolar climate and it provides an effortlessly chic look! Hope you feel inspired today!

Peace of Paradise ✌

Peace and quiet. Relaxation. Beauty. All the essentials in life, right?

I spent the day at my uncle's home and had the rare opportunity of enjoying all of these necessities simultaneously. I was in awe of the lush beauty I found at every turn and the photo op's were endless. Take a look at some of my fave pics from this little slice of heaven....

FASHION:
At the pool, I wore a colbalt blue strapless bikini from Target to compliment my relatively pale skin. For dinner, I changed into a maxi dress with a navy and white chevron pattern, as geometric designs are a must have. I wore navy wedges to match the navy chevrons and a white crotchet top to brave the breeze. To tame my pool hair, I just threw on a braided headband from old navy.
